The talk is a critical review of recent publications on what benefits educational documents and theories specified as positive outcomes of language education. It discusses specific cognitive, educational, conative, affective, socio-economic, and cultural benefits supported by evidence in empirical studies, their necessary conditions allowing them to emerge, and what lessons can be learned for teaching and using additional languages.
